About Us
Give Them Space! Take The Pledge is a voluntary pledge campaign for boaters to stay 1,000 yards away from the endangered southern resident orcas, and give these vulnerable pods the space they need to forage, rest, and tend their young.
The campaign is co-organized by Friends of the San Juans, Washington Conservation Action, National Resources Defense Council, Seattle Aquarium, and The Whale Trail. The campaign was launched in September 2020.
How you Can Help
Take the Pledge. Boaters have an opportunity to play a meaningful role in orca recovery, by giving the orcas the space they need. means more space and protection for the southern resident orcas. Take the pledge, and ask your friends and family to take it too!
Watch from Shore. The best way to watch southern residents is from shore. The Whale Trail is a series of places where you might see them. Visit The Whale Trail website for maps, directions and descriptions of each site.
Participate. Give them Space is a grass-roots initiative led by a coalition of nonprofit organizations. We welcome your ideas.
Support. Please consider making a donation to support Give them Space. With your help we can reach more boaters, and create quieter seas for the orcas. The Whale Trail is the financial sponsor for Give them Space.
